My son, pay attention to my words and be willing to learn; Open your ears to my sayings. Do not let them escape from your sight; Keep them in the centre of your heart. For they are life to those who find them, And healing and health to all their flesh. Proverbs 4:20-22 AMP
In a time when many are looking for cures to different medical situations including the current pandemic, it is good for us as believers to always remember that God’s word is healing and health to all our flesh. One version of the bible actually says, “For they are life unto those that find them and medicine to all their flesh.”
Using the word medicine gives us a different perspective on the practical application of the word. If you are prescribed medicine you know that for you to get well you need to use the medicine as directed, and you believe, have an expectation, even before you start taking it that you will get better as you use the medicine because the doctor said so. So you do everything to make sure you don’t miss your dosage including setting reminders.
God describes Himself as the LORD that healeth us in Exodus 15:26. He is the one who promises to keep His people free from sickness and diseases as they obey His word. He is Jehovah-Rapha, the LORD who heals us. His very name declaring that it is His nature to be the Healer to those who obey His word— to recover to health and to sustain in health. In the gospels, Jesus is referred to as the Physician who came for those who are sick and healing all kinds of sickness and disease (Matthew 4:23).
Earlier this year I had a really bad pain in my back. I had never suffered from back pain and I found this pain incredibly discomforting. I thought maybe it was to do with my posture so I bought a band to help me sit properly but this did not help. I took painkillers, I went to a specialist recommended by a friend and she tried manipulating my bones to help me out. But the pain persisted. So one day I was listening to a teaching tape on healing and I was reminded of this scripture and I made a decision to treat the word of God like prescribed medicine over seven days. So I took the scripture verses from the bible relating to healing promises, and three times a day I would take my medicine. I would find a quiet place and confess the scriptures out loud personalising them for myself. Before the week was over all the pain had gone completely and I had grown in my assurance of faith that healing truly belongs to me. Now I aim to take my medicine once a day as you would with daily vitamins. It keeps me continually in faith for healing.
I want to encourage you in this season to see the word of God as medicine to all your flesh. Get a hold of God’s healing promises and make a daily habit of confessing them allowing the Holy Spirit to expand your understanding of the scriptures as you do so. And if you are in pain today, double the dose and take the medicine of the word alongside your other medication. As you do this persistently allowing God to direct you, I believe you will start to notice changes in your flesh and experience God’s healing power because He is the LORD that heals you.
Prayer: Lord it is your will to heal everyone, I pray that together we will rise up and confess your healing words over our lives and families, and as we do so I thank you that your healing power will break the hold of any sickness or disease in our lives in the mighty name of Jesus.
