For this reason [seeing the greatness of this plan by which you are built together in Christ], I bow my knees before the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, For Whom every family in heaven and on earth is named [that Father from Whom all fatherhood takes its title and derives its name]. Ephesians 3:14-15 AMPC
In the old testament your family determined who you were, how people saw you, how you saw yourself and what you were entitled to. Gideon whom God called a mighty man of fearless courage, to save Israel from the Midianites who had impoverished them said, “Oh Lord, how can I deliver Israel? Behold, my family is the poorest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.’’ Saul when called by the prophet to be king said, “Am I not a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? And is not my family the least of all the families of the clans of Benjamin? Why then do you speak this way to me?” David when chosen to marry the king’s daughter said, “Who am I, and what is my life or my father’s family in Israel, that I should be the king’s son-in-law?” Unlike God, one of the first thing they considered in responding to a call, duty or a better place in life was their perceived self worth or entitlement based on their family.
In life today we see that heritage matters and as believers our heritage, our lineage and inheritance comes through Christ Jesus and we are now in the family of God. God has adopted us as His own children through Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:5) and I love the fact that He did this because of His love for us and His great kindness. He had already purposed to do this according to His good will and it pleased Him, delighted Him when through His son Jesus Christ this became our reality.
There is no greater family you can be named after or come out from, and as members of God’s family we carry His DNA in us through the Holy Spirit given to us, which is why we are like Him. I call this supernatural adoption – God in us and we in Him, fully born of Him. He is our Heavenly Father and we are his heirs, entitled to everything He owns. So you should see yourself beyond the limitations that derive from your earthly family – don’t say my family was poor so I am poor, or my family was sick so I am sick or my family worked this kind of job so that is all I can do, or anything else your earthly family experienced that was less than what God promised you. Instead start seeing yourself as part of Gods family where there are no limitations of what you can or cannot do, who you can or cannot be, where you can or cannot go or what you can or cannot have. As long as God has it, you can have it too for we are all one in Christ Jesus!
Be confident that you belong to the best lineage, the best family named from God in heaven and on earth and it is from God that you legitimately derive all your title and name, child of God. And I chuckle with laughter because we have some incredible brothers and sisters, family members, gone before us and even now to inspire us in our daily walk with God here on earth!
Romans 8:15-17 NKJV – ” For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs-heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.”
