Rejoice Always
Fola Komolafe
Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Philippians 4:4 (NKJV)
When you rejoice in someone or over something, for example the birth of a baby, you are so exited, full of joy, gladness, delight and happiness. In the same way and with all the same expressions, the bible is encouraging us to always rejoice in the Lord unconditionally. You are rejoicing in the person, that is, all that the Lord represents now and forevermore, all that He has done, all that He is doing and all that He will do for you and in you. I read an article recently which made me chuckle. It said, ‘In the New Testament, Lord is the most frequently used title for Jesus Christ. Although we rarely use this term in our daily lives, we are all quite familiar with another word: boss. That is basically what Lord means—one possessing authority, power, and control.’ So let us together Rejoice in The Boss!
Psalm 33:1 says, ‘Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous ones; Praise is becoming and appropriate for those who are upright [in heart—those with moral integrity and godly character].’ So you may ask and want to say to me to be realistic, is it really possible to delight, to be glad and rejoice in the Lord always even when things are not as I want them to be? I believe so, because like everything else in the word of God, you do it by faith and then you see the fruits and benefits because you obeyed. I remember a situation at work many years ago where I felt someone had misrepresented me in my absence. I was really upset and made a very intentional decision to rejoice instead, to rejoice in the Lord, The Boss, who knows all things and has a way of making things right. As I did this I immediately felt so much joy inside of me, I had an unexplainable renewed hope and a strong assurance that everything was going to be okay. It worked out perfectly for me as not only was the situation rectified, it also resulted in a promotion in the workplace. I believe God is amazing because as you rejoice in Him, he gives you back what you are giving to Him – Joy!
So yes you can rejoice in the Lord in all situations and you should. Praise is definitely becoming and appropriate for the upright, it looks good on you. It is your best response and it brings God so quickly onto the scene. He has already got a perfect and complete plan for your life. It does not matter how things may look or appear because the end is always better than the beginning, God has not finished with you yet and He will have the final say! The songwriter wrote, ‘Who has the final say, Jehovah has the final say, He makes a way where there is no way, Jehovah has the final say.’ So I say to you today, Rejoice, Rejoice, Rejoice in the Lord!
James said, ‘Consider it wholly joyful, my brethren, whenever you are enveloped in or encounter trials of any sort or fall into various temptations. Be assured and understand that the trial and proving of your faith bring out endurance and steadfastness and patience. But let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that you may be [people] perfectly and fully developed [with no defects], lacking in nothing.’ (James 1:2-4).
Rejoice in the Lord, Rejoice in Christ Jesus, Rejoice in His light and Rejoice in the hope of the glory of God! Everyone, Rejoice in The Boss!
