Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NKJV)

I am steadfast, I am not moving, I am staying in the Lord because I know that all I do in Him is not in vain. I say this so many times to remind myself that I have chosen to be steadfast in God and in His word. How about you? I hope you have made a decision to be steadfast, a decision that you make now before situations and circumstances  that may try to cause you to move comes,  things that try to cause you to move from a position of stand you are taking because of the word of God firmly fixed in your heart. It is so important because it takes an attitude of steadfastness to fully see all the promises of God evidenced in your life, an attitude that says I am not giving up until I see the goodness of God manifested exactly as God promised it to me. I am staying in the word of God, believing it and declaring it because God said so!

One quote says, ‘Be like the cliff against which the waves continually break, it stands firm and tames the fury of the water around it.’ It stands firm and tames, controls, commands, stills the fury of the water around it. You tame things with the words of your mouth. Standing firm in your faith is being steadfast in the Lord. I remember when I was in university and young believers were described as being ‘staunch Christians.’ It was a word used to describe those bunch of people who loved God so much that they were sold out to Him, loyal and unwilling to compromise. I still love being a staunch Christian!

Jotham was a young king over Jerusalem. Jerusalem had had so many kings and some followed God but most of them did not. However, Jotham won many victories, restored broken parts of the temple and it is said that he did right in the sight of the Lord. In 2 Chronicles 27:6, the bible says, ‘Jotham grew powerful because he walked steadfastly before the Lord his God.’ Being steadfast, trusting in the Lord pays out in the long run and I want to encourage you not to give up on your faith, on the word of God in your heart and especially on the things you believe God has spoken to you and you are believing Him to see. Psalm 112:6-8 says, ‘Surely the righteous will never be shaken; they will be remembered (by God) forever. They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast (firmly fixed), trusting in the Lord. Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear; in the end they will look in triumph on their foes.’

It is the word of God and the knowledge that God remembers us for good that causes our hearts to be steadfast and secure. Our decision and choice is to trust in Him no matter what. Over and over again in we see in His word, God coming through for His people. He does because that is who He is and that is the love that He has for each of us. I encourage you to believe in the love of God for you knowing that He will cause you to triumph, so be steadfast, be immovable, trusting and leaning completely on the Lord.

In Psalm 57:7 and Psalm 108:1, David said repeatedly, “My heart, O God, is steadfast, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music with all my soul.’” I believe he repeated it to himself to remind himself of his trust in the Lord and then he sang with all his soul. You can do the same thing today. You can declare by faith that your heart is steadfast trusting in the Lord and then start singing, praising and making your own beautiful music to the Lord. Your heart will be strengthened, faith will come and you will stand steadfast and immovable in God!
