For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come. 1 Corinthians 11:26 (KJV)
Jesus is coming again! Yippee, I don’t know exactly when, but I hope that is wonderful news to you as it is to me. And till He comes, He said we should eat this bread and drink this cup reminding ourselves constantly of His life, His death and His resurrection. The Living Bible says, and I love it, “that every time you eat this bread and drink this cup you are retelling the message of the Lord’s death, that he has died for you.” Do this until he comes again. You are retelling the message to yourself, your situation and the devil that Jesus has died for you. This message is as powerful and effective today as it was when it actually happened. Nothing has changed! The message of the cross is victory, salvation, healing, deliverance, prosperity and hope to all who are in Christ Jesus. No wonder the disciples broke bread every single day – they needed to and so do we because no matter where we are at, communion centers us right back on Jesus and His resurrection power that is available to us all. And believe me, we need to remember this often, so so often, especially when under pressure because our victory was assured for us at the cross.
In Luke 19:12-27, Jesus is sharing a parable about a nobleman who was travelling to a far country and who gave some money to ten of his servants telling them to ‘Occupy (or do business) till I come.’ When the nobleman returned, he asked how they had gotten on. Some had traded and doubled the money and some had done nothing. Those who had done something with what they had were rewarded and called faithful whilst those who had done nothing (not even to just put it in the bank to earn interest) were called wicked. You may think you have nothing – that is not true! It is in you and it may be so natural to you that you may overlook it or take it for granted. For example, you have a voice, you have hands, you have some natural abilities – use them all to occupy and get involved in doing the Lord’s business till He comes. Paul encouraging Timothy on what to do till he comes in 2 Timothy 4:13.14a said, “So until I come, be diligent in devouring the Word of God, be faithful in prayer, and in teaching the believers. Don’t minimise the powerful gift that operates in your life.” (TPT) I believe that God has made it possible for us to do His work if we will listen to Him and start by giving Him the things that seem so natural and sometimes effortless to us, not minimising in our eyes the power of that gift of God in us. Give God what you have by using it for His business no matter how little or insignificant it may look to you Until He Comes.
One thing is certain and that is that we will see Jesus. I am hoping that I will see Him return during my long life here on earth, but if not, it really does not matter because the question remains the same – what will you and I be doing till He comes? I hope we will be taking communion and getting about the Lord’s business.
In John 9:4 Jesus said, “We must work the works of Him Who sent Me and be busy with His business while it is daylight; night is coming on, when no man can work.”
