“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law”. Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV).
As I walked down to the office along the Midsummer Boulevard, a lady walked up to me and begged for some change, she was hungry and homeless. My mind, my brain, automatically switched into logic, what is she going to do with the money? All sorts of stereotypical answers ran through my reasoning, but at the point of saying “I have no change”, the Spirit man stepped in to remind and encourage “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Matthew 25: 35-36. Does that mean I have to give her money even if she’s not going to get food? “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’.” Matthew 25:40.
Kindness is the fruit of the spirit, not judgement and condemnation, share the love, make someone rejoice and give thanks to God. Check how you have done today and each day ahead, carry out a spiritual audit each day and walk closer with God in His purpose for you. Ask yourself these questions;
- Have I demonstrated the Love of God to the people I met today? God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him” 1 John 4:16
- Have I encouraged myself or someone today, reminded them, “the Joy of the Lord is your strength” Nehemiah 8:10
- Am I at peace within me, in my Spirit? “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” Romans 5:1.
- Have I been patient with the people I dealt with today? “With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love” Ephesians 4:2
- Have demonstrated Kindness, been a blessing to someone, in words and in deed today? “in purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love; in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left” 2 Corinthians 6:6-7.
- Have I shown people the goodness and righteousness of God today as His Ambassador? “Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power” 2 Thessalonians 1:11
- Have I exercised my faith in the situations and circumstances I faced today, have I trusted God with all my heart, without a doubt or unbelief? “I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith” Ephesians 3:16-17.
- Have I been gentle and considerate in how I dealt with the brethren who made a mistake today? “Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted” Galatians 6:1
- Was I temperate in my conduct today, did I exercise self-control, quick to listen and slow to speak? “But also, for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love” 2 Peter 1:5-7.
All the laws and the prophets hang on loving God and your neighbour, there is no law against the fruit of the Spirit. Each day our aim is to produce the fruit of the Spirit and demonstrate the character of Christ, we are Christ’s Ambassadors.
