Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should
be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it
did not know Him. 1 John 3:1

I woke up one day thinking about how much God loves me. I was so overwhelmed
by the thought that I found myself saying, ‘I reserve all my love for God and for all
that God loves.’ In saying this, I was trying to express the fact that God will always
get my first love, before anyone and before anything, God first!

In the book of Revelation 2:1-8, we see God commending one of the churches for
their work, their labor, their patience, their dislike for evil and their perseverance.
However in verse 4 He says, “Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have
left your first love.” It would appear that whilst a lot of what they did was good and
known to God, they had forgotten something most important, God first.

Nothing is so important or necessary that it should ever take the place of God in
your life. Many times in the bible God says, “For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous
God.” You need to make sure that nothing ever replaces Him as your first love. You
need to pursue His as your first love, you need to seek Him as your first love and
you need to love Him as your first love.

Mark 12:30 says, “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all
your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.” This is the first
commandment.”
