Rejoice In The Truth
Fola Komolafe
For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. 3 John 3-4 (NKJV)
Knowing the truth can be like turning on the light in a dark room, suddenly you can see and understand. I don’t know if you have ever experienced the frustration of trying to explain something you know is true to someone and somehow you can’t seem to get through. Or when something is missing and you know it was there and everybody goes, ‘not me.’ And you feel like screaming in frustration because you just want the truth. I believe God created us for truth and there is a yearning in us all to know the truth or to get to the bottom of the matter (maybe some more than others, lol).
There is something freeing and liberating about knowing the truth, and people spend lots of money to find out the truth, that hidden secret and the way to get what they want. In the courts of law, people promise to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. My daughter enjoys watching documentaries where they are usually looking to discover the truth about something, someone or a situation. The truth opens our eyes, it makes things clearer, it helps us get to the core of the matter, it gives us perspective and understanding including the certainty in the choices that we make. In John 8:32, Jesus encouraging those who believed in Him to hold fast to His word said, ‘And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.’
One of the reasons why we look for the truth is because we are surrounded by so many lies in this world, so many different voices, different points of view that we now have a terminology for some of this called ‘fake news.’ In a similar context, I can see John greatly rejoicing (dancing, singing, praising God abundantly) because in the midst of all the fake news, he found some people, some believers bold enough to live and walk in the Truth presented by the whole Gospel. He goes on to say, ‘I have no greater joy than this, to hear that my [spiritual] children are living their lives in the Truth.’
You and I should rejoice greatly in the truth, rejoice greatly that the truth is in us and we are boldly living it out, rejoice greatly when we see people walking in the truth, rejoice greatly when you hear the truth because the truth of Gods word has the inherent power in itself to save us, deliver us, liberate us and set us free. Jesus is the truth in person, He dwells in truth and He said, ‘I am the way, the truth and the life.’ (John 14:6)
David said, ‘I will also praise You with the harp, even Your truth and faithfulness, O my God; unto You will I sing praises with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel. My lips shall shout for joy when I sing praises to You, and my inner being, which You have redeemed.’ (Psalm 71:22-23)
SO LET US REJOICE GREATLY that the TRUTH is in us!
John 17:16-17 (AMP) – They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth [set them apart for Your purposes, make them holy]; Your word is truth.’
