Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:12

Have you ever been on one of those rollercoasters at a theme park? Once you are on the ride, they go so fast and no matter how scared you are, you know that you cannot let go of the handle bars. You hold on fast! In some ways this is what the word is telling us. It is saying that no matter what comes our way we should hold on fast and not let go of the eternal life to which we have been called and about which we made a good confession. However we don’t hold on in fear, we hold on in faith, we hold on believing the word of faith which is the word of God.

If you will develop your faith in God, it will dispel fear, worry and doubt in your life. Instead you will find yourself confidently confessing the word of God over every situation of life that comes your way. In Matthew 8:26, we see Jesus in the boat with His disciples. However when a great storm came, they were afraid that they would perish and woke Jesus up. Jesus said to them, ‘why are you fearful (or afraid), O you of little faith?’ He then did what they should have done which was to rebuke the winds and the sea thereby restoring calmness to the waters. They could have but they didn’t, they were afraid because at that point in time their faith was little. The good news is your faith does not have to stay little, start hearing the word of God more and faith will increase on the inside of you.

I really love the use of the word good, twice in this verse. God is truly good and everything we do in Him is good because it always produces good in our life. So living a life of faith is good; and professing or confessing the word is good because together they brings about good God results.

So no matter what is going on around us, you and I need to be determined to fight the good fight of faith and lay hold on the eternal life we have received to the end. To hold on means you will never let go because you know the one who promised and from whom you received eternal life. You hold on because you know like the rollercoaster ride this is the only way to your survival and victory. You see, the rich, precious and priceless life of God is in you right now and it entitles you to everything that God has promised you here on earth now and through eternity in heaven. The bible says in John 1:4, “in Jesus was life (God kind of life) and the life (God kind of life) was the light (deliverance) of men,” and Jesus Himself said in John 10:10, “I am come that they (you and I) might have life (the God kind of life), and that they (you and I) might have it (the God kind of life) more abundantly (excessively and exceedingly above).” Now that you have it in Christ Jesus, hold on to it forever!

So the next time the devil tries anything in your life, remember to hold on to life of God in you and rebuke him quickly standing your ground in faith!
